Another article regarding that whole fortune cookie debacle…
Recently the Houston Rockets visited Miami to play the heat. Since it was the first time Yao Ming was in town and since Miami needs to seize opportunities to run promotions to get fannies in seats, the Heat decided to give out fortune cookies to the first eight thousand people who showed up. Inside there were coupons for discounts and chances to win free tix and all that kind of stuff. Everyone seems to find this clever and amusing; Yao Ming said it was funny and that there are no such things as fortune cookies in China. Am I the only one who is shocked that the People Spring Loaded To Take Offense At Anything (PSLTTOAA) have been silent? How is this not ethnic/racial stereotyping? Some golfer makes a fried chicken remark relative to Tiger Woods and you’d think the world was coming to an end; but assuming ? incorrectly ? that someone from China can be associated with fortune cookies is OK? Where is the outrage?
Yeah, where is the outrage? Well, I personally don’t find it offensive enough to start a whole letter writing campaign. I just find it really REALLY stupid and ignorant. As Adam Sandler (imitating Jerry Seinfeld) says during one of my favorite SNL skits…
Who are the ad wizards who came up with this one?!
Oh, for the record…the Heat lost. Wonder if they opened up one of those cookies and knew that was gonna happen.
