Ms. Swan - that’s racist…

December 23rd, 2002

Katherine from Charlie Chan’s Revenge finds MADtv’s character Ms. Swan to be offensive. Ms. Swan is supposedly from a fictional country, but her accent is no doubt the stereotypical “engrish.” I think it’s a fairly funny character, and I’ve seen Hispanics speak with similar accents.

I went to MADtv’s website to see if I could find more information on Ms. Swan, and to my eye’s surprise I see (along with a pop-up ad) a group picture, with all the comedians grouped together like one big happy multi-cultural family. Except Bobby Lee, the lone Asian-American comedian, who is standing alone on the other end of the screen.

Which proves one thing to me…I have too much time on my hand’s to notice stuff like this.

[Yeah yeah, I know there’s plenty of reasons why he’s on the other end. Maybe he missed the photo-op and they added him later, maybe he was casted later, maybe he was busy fixing that television set (he’s Asian, so he must be an electronic engineer!), etc.]
