SHAQUILLE O’NEAL The eyes of the basketball world will descend upon Compaq Center tonight to catch a glimpse of the first-ever battle between the NBA’s most dominant big man, Shaquille O’Neal, and one of the league’s rising stars in Yao Ming. A few controversial comments made by O’Neal in the offseason have recently captured the attention of many but the soft-spoken Yao has chosen the classy route, mostly downplaying the extra significance of tonight’s meeting. Yao has never faced anyone like he’ll see in O’Neal but likewise Shaq hasn’t encountered another center like the 7-6 Yao Ming. With the ability to block Shaq’s shot on one end and display an array of offensive moves on the other, the Rockets center will look to show the rest of the world that he’s up to the challenge.
