tuk tuks…

June 6th, 2003

Sorry, I can’t help but post this…
Taxis that deliver

An estimated 300-400 babies each year are born en route to the hospital in taxis and tuk- tuks, the three-wheeled open-sided taxis commonly used on Bangkok’s streets.

Tuk-tuks are the coolest mode of transportation. Ever. And driving in any taxi in Thailand is like re-enacting a high speed car chase scene. Even if it’s bumper to bumper traffic. I remember listening to an American radio station, and every once in a while they’d play a public service type annoucement telling you to not open your doors in traffic, so you won’t hit the motorcycle taxis. Really. Three lanes actually becomes five because motorcycles just drive through in between cars. At fast speeds.
