Being hip…

March 2nd, 2005

While grabbing a much needed cup of coffee at Starbucks the other day, I noticed they were selling two CDs at the front counter - the multi-winning Grammy Ray Charles CD and a Nat King Cole compilation.

Nat King Cole?

Whoa! It’s hip to listen to Nat King Cole now! Wow, I was hip 20 years too early then. I can remember sitting down listening to my parent’s old LPs of him. They loved his music so much they named me after him.

With a few megs left of space left, I decided to fill up my iPod with his greatest hits CD (not the Starbucks one; an old copy I already have at home.) Listening to it now, however, feels a lot different than back then. With all it’s remastering and digital clarity, I long for the crackling sounds of the LP, and getting lost looking at it going round and round the turntable. I guess I’m getting old fashioned.
