Not on the web…

March 31st, 2005

Dear patron,

Not everything in existence can be found on the Internet. No, I don’t care what you’ve heard about the good ol’ Information Superhighway, you can’t find every goddamn thing on the ‘Net. Period.

A list of Superbowl winners? Sure.

A list of all Russian surgeons stationed at military bases throughout the country? No. And adding quotes around that on Yahoo! doesn’t help either.

A picture of Devon Aoki in Sin City? Hell yeah.

A picture of some guy you hardly knew in 2nd grade who may or may not be in England and may or may not be some financial advisor? No.

The 1-800 number to Amazon? Yeah, but it takes a while to find.

The personal phone number to the CEO of a Fortune 500 company so you could make a complaint? No.

Sure, there’s the invisible-web with a slew of materials not indexed by Google, but that too has it’s limitations. The ‘Net is nothing like the movies, where typing in a name leads you to a picture of a birth certificate and a driver’s license photo.

And if you think you could do a better search, and I’m part of some vast conspiracy to stop you from getting the results you wanted, do your own search.
