Asimov and Dewey

June 2nd, 2005

I remember reading years ago that Isaac Asimov is the only author to have published books in all ten categories of the Dewey Decimal System. That little bit of trivia popped in my head the other day, so I searched our library catalog and sorted the results by call numbers. Needless to say, the 500 (Pure Science) and the 600 (Applied Science & Technology) were well represented, and a scattering a books rounded the other categories except the 100 (Philosophy) section.

Of course, our library won’t have every single Asimov title, so I looked online to see if there was perhaps an Asimov title being shelved in the 100 section somewhere. But according to this FAQ, not one of Asimov’s book is classified in the 100 section.

Strange. Asimov, a prolific writer (500 volumes of work was a ballpark estimate), never wrote about paranormal phenomena, psychology, logic, or metaphysics.
