Duh.

June 9th, 2005

Patron: “Um, hey. Do you work here?”

Me: (behind the desk) “Yes, sir. I do.”

Patron: “This is the information desk, right?”

Me: (behind the desk, under a sign saying “Information &
Reference”
) “Yes, sir. It is. How may I help you?”

Patron: “Good. You have a computer here, right?”

Me: (behind the desk, under a sign saying “Information & Reference”, right next to a computer): “Yes, sir. I do have one. How may I help you?

[Five minutes later, after determining that we are indeed connected to the Internet and that I do indeed know how to operate a computer]

Patron: “Yeah, there’s this site where I enter my name into a box and click send.”

Me: “Alright. Do you know the address?”

Patron: “Of this library?”

Me: “No, sir. Of the web site you’re interested in.”

Patron: “Oh, yeah. Part of it. It starts out with www.”

[I can’t remember what happened afterwards. I’m sure it includes a discussion on what is the World Wide Web, computers in general, and what may or may not be a goat. That last part is a bit sketchy.]
