Thoughts on Batman Begins…
June 21st, 2005
Batman (1989) - loved it.
Batman Returns (1992) - liked it.
Batman Forever (1995) - eh, Riddler was nice.
Batman and Robin (1997) - so this is what Hell looks like.
Needless to say, I wasn’t putting up much hope for Batman Begins, despite all the talk that this was going a different route than the nippled codpiece.
Boy was I wrong.
It was an excellent movie, the first Batman movie actually showing a struggle to become the caped crusader, not just a billionaire playboy who happens to live above a highly modified bat cave. I loved seeing Sirius Black Commisioner Gordon start out as a lowly police officer, making his way up to Lieutenant. Loved seeing Liam Neeson teaching the art of swordfighting skills and giving sage advice for the first second third time. Hated seeing Ken Watanabe for all of two minutes and 29 seconds when he obviously deserved more. Loved the Scarecrow. Questioned why Katie Holmes was even in the movie, and waited for Dawson to appear any minute , soaking in the rain with flowers asking for her to take him back, all while some Paula Cole song was playing in the background.
Good thing she’s not signed on for the sequels.
