up in the morning and off to school…

August 8th, 2005

My daughter started school today.

It was a bittersweet feeling, looking at her wearing her little uniform, wearing her little pink bookbag, holding her lunchbox. Did we prepare her well enough for Kindergarten? Does she know her alphabet? Check. Does she know her numbers? Check. Shapes? Check. Colors? Check. The Pythagorean theorem? Um, not yet. We’ll wait ’til 2nd grade for that.

We, along with the paparazzi my daughter affectionately call “grandparents” walked into her little room, looked around the room for her name, and realized that the teacher must hate us already for having a 13-letter last name. She placed her bookbag in her locker, met some of her classmates (some of which, fortunately, were with her in daycare), colored a little, and proceeded to cry. Wait, that was her mom and dad, sorry.

After several attempts at leaving the room - we just had to get the last hug goodbye - we walked on over to the cafeteria to pay for her week’s lunch. Whoa memories! I am dying for a grilled-cheese sandwich and chocolate milk right now. You can keep the green beans.
