a small world…

September 1st, 2005

I just watched the weirdest thing. It wasn’t the movie that was weird, it was the way I watched it - a French movie, dubbed in Thai, with English subtitles. Playing on my Japanese DVD player.

I just received my copy of Banlieu 13 (District 13) on DVD. It’s a French action movie taking place in the not so distant future, where a man on the wrong side of the barrio (in his case, the inside) is trying to rescue his sister from the evil clutches of a drug lord, with the help of a military officer who’s trying to rescue millions of people in Paris from a bomb which too is in the evil clutches of the same drug lord. A few twists here and there are thrown in for good measure. The fight scenes are impressive, though not at impressive to me as the stuff coming out of Thailand (Ong Bak and Tom Yung Goong, to name a few.) The most impressive things are the escape scenes. I mean, these people are jumping off the roofs of buildings, running at breakneck speeds, jumping over speeding cars, jumping through cars, and landing on their two feet and continuing outrunning some downright stupid thugs.

Without breaking a sweat. My legs were aching just lying down on the bed watching it. I need to excercise more.
