librarything

September 11th, 2005

I’m trying out LibraryThing to catalog my little book collection.

The most impressive thing, however, is checking out the author cloud, a collection of author tags sized according to their frequency. Meaning, the more users who catalog a particular author’s books, the larger his or her name is on the list. Off the bat you’ll see Douglas Adams name standing out like John Hancock’s on the Declaration of Independence. Scroll down and you’ll see some more large ones, like Isaac Asimov, Orson Scott Card, and other assorted science fiction and classical lit authors. Of course, C.S. Lewis and J.K. Rowling’s names can be read several yards away from your monitor.

What impresses me the most, and it may very well have to do with the demographics of the Internet community - not a single Danielle Steel book has been cataloged as of today.
