for your consideration…

My new, favorite Jet Li movie - and dare I say, martial arts movie - of all time may be Unleashed, or Danny the Dog depending on what side of the ocean you’re from.
This is definetely my favorite Jet Li movie in a modern-day setting, and it didn’t rely too heavily on computer graphics (a la The One) or a pounding hip-hop soundtrack either (a la Romeo Must Die). It’s a great role for Jet Li as well, considering his acting skills will never be noticed by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. I would never have expected a great actor like Morgan Freeman to be in any Jet Li film, but I’m glad he was. And Bob Hoskins? Roger Rabbit would’ve been disgusted at his vile behavior.
Granted, a lot of reviews warned of the lack of fight scenes, but the few fight scene that are there sure makes up for it. Just the opening scene alone had me on the edge of my seat, and a fairly long fight scene taking place in the confines of a bathroom stall had me on the edge of my toilet seat as well. You’ll need to see it to believe it.
The fight scene, not me on the edge of a toilet seat.
I can’t wait to get this on DVD and not watch a poor quality version on my computer monitor downloaded by some unscrupolous individual. Tsk tsk.
Oh, yeah - Tropical storm Hurricane Rita barely touched us down here. Thank God.
