Fact or fiction…
May 22nd, 2006
When shelving books in a library which uses the Dewey Decimal System, all you have to do is look at the spine label of a book in order to know where to properly shelve it. For example, if I come across a book with a spine label of 641.5 (like, say, Cooking for Dummies) I know to shelve it somewhere in the cookbook section of the non-fiction area.
But, when I come across a book with a name instead of a number, then I know it’s fiction. For example, if I come across a book with a spine label of Brown (like, say, oh, I don’t know - The Da Vinci Code or something), I know to shelve it in the fiction section.
That’s right, kids. The fiction section. Fiction books are stories which are not real. Stories with flying creatures and magical rings, and suspense and murders which never happened. You know, made-up stuff. Imaginary things which doesn’t necessarily mean it’s real or should be thought of as real.
Well, that’s it for today’s class. See you tomorrow to explain why the Bible is shelved in the non-fiction section.
