Our library was a polling place, which always makes for exciting stories:

Patron: Hi, where do you go to vote?
Me, pointing over to our program room: Over there in our program room.
Patron, pointing behind me: There?
Me, pointing over to our program room with a sign saying Polling Place and two poll deputies manning the front: No, m’am, over there. Right where those two in orange vests are standing.
Patron: Oh, thanks.

Patron proceeds to stand in front of copy machine, looking very dumbfounded

Me: No, m’am, the polling place is over there in that room.

She’s voting for the future leader of America.

Happy 2008 to all my readers, and thank you for all the comments on various penile enhancements and other prescriptions. I’ve made a New Years resolution to post more. But then again, I made that same resolution in 2007 and 2006.

Upon further viewing of Heroes, Season 1, I’ve come to the conclusion that creator Tim Kring based the character of Hiro Nakamura on me. I expect a check soon.

I sold my martial arts DVD collection. Well, some of it at least. A good 30-40 percent of it maybe. I took a look at the collection and finally accepted the fact that I won’t be watching that 30-40 percent any time soon, or ever again. I also accepted the fact that we don’t even own a VCR anymore so why even bother keeping VHS tapes.

I kept all my favorites of course, from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon to Zu Warriors. I also managed to weed a lot of the non-martial arts stuff we don’t seem to care about. All in all, it filled up a fairly large box. We managed to get around $80.00 in store credit - which all went to this -

Today, after spending two days at home thanks to the wonders of sinus headaches, I came back to work and was welcomed with several boxes of donated books piled high near my desk - some of which haven’t seen the light of day since the Johnson administration.

So, I dilegently went through them, sorting them out for the annual booksale. I came across a box with a couple of well-used classics, including a copy of Kafka’s The Metamorphosis. It was then I noticed a roach crawling inside the box. After appreciating this little bit of irony, I quickly placed Gregor (yeah, I named it) out of his memory. It was then I appreciated that this bit of irony didn’t happen when I opened up that package of new DVDs which contained Snakes on a Plane.
